Surf’s up on the Turks & Caicos Islands

Surf’s up on the Turks & Caicos Islands This month, Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort Villages & Spa has unveiled a brand new “Body Glove Waves” surf simulator as part of its 45,000-square foot Pirate’s Island Waterpark.

Manufactured by American Wave Machines, the surf simulator was rebranded as a result of a joint venture between AWM and Body Glove International, one of the world’s foremost watersports brands.

As the first and only resort in the Western Hemisphere to offer a “Body Glove Waves” surf simulator, it has quickly become a top attraction among adventure-seeking guests, generating strong crests perfect for advanced surfers and surfing competitions as well as gentler ripples and waves for younger riders. “Body Glove Waves” uniquely creates waves of varying types and sizes in small spaces. These waves are safe enough for novices or challenging enough for competition because they provide a deep cushion of water that can be carved using real surfboards, fins and all. The rider can translate those skills directly to oceans and rivers.

The surf simulator is part of the resort’s comprehensive aquatic playground, known as the Pirate’s Island Waterpark, featuring nine slides and a 650 ft. lazy river, which gently carries floaters through a magical grotto, cascading waterfall and overhead boardwalk. Adding to its swashbuckling pirate theme, the waterpark also features a zero-entry pool and aqua play area complete with water cannons, a beached Pirate ship with slide as well as cranks and sprays.

The Pirate’s Island Waterpark at Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort Villages & Spa debuted in March 2009 as part a $125 million resort expansion. In addition to the waterpark, the expansion introduced a 162-family suite Italian Village, bringing the resort’s room count to 615. The new Italian Village also features a palatial lobby with private check-in services, a sprawling retail mecca and five additional gourmet restaurants for a resort total of 16.

Also this year, Beaches Resorts debuted a series of teen and tween programming across all locations in Jamaica and Turks & Caicos, comprised of: jam sessions at 21-and-under club, Liquid; DJ lessons at the Scratch DJ Academy; a teen-only lounge with interactive games, Trench Town; as well as tailored spa treatments at Beaches Resorts’ exclusive Red Lane Spa.
