Frieze frame at Hyatt Regency London

New for 2009, coinciding with Frieze Art Fair, and in response to the current popularity of Iranian art on the international stage, the luxury five-star hotel in collaboration with leading cultural consultancy, Candlestar, is staging an exhibition of artwork by Iranian artists from 10–24 October 2009 in the hotel lobby.
In line with Frieze Art Fair’s focus on today’s most exciting contemporary art, “Iran Unbowed” will present contemporary artists from one of the world’s most vibrant young art scenes. At a time when Iran is much in the news, the exhibition will be a unique opportunity to view the work of three generations of artists.
The exhibition will feature Iranian artists such as Abbas Kiarostami and Farideh Lashai who are already major figures on the international artworld together with younger artists, such as Pooya Aryanpour and Darioush Gharazad, who are rapidly establishing a global following as well as two artists whose work has never previously exhibited outside Iran.
“Iran Unbowed” also coincides with the final exhibition of MOPCAP the Contemporary Art Prize, organised by Candlestar for the London-based charity the Magic of Persia. The MOP CAP exhibition will be held at the Royal College of Art from 15–17 October 2009.
In addition, The Wallace Collection, located moments from Portman Square in the neighbouring Manchester Square, will host 25 new paintings by Damien Hirst including two triptychs, being shown in the UK for the first time. “The Blue Paintings” marks the artist’s return to the solitary practice of painting. Their exhibition at The Wallace Collection, arguably the most intimate national museum in the world, is significant. In contrast to the white walls of a contemporary gallery, Hirst has opted to present these works in a classical context, surrounded by Old Master paintings in the great European tradition at The Wallace Collection.
