A lighter walk on the Cornish side

Barclay House, Looe, is offering guests a luggage service to encourage them to explore the coastal walks of South East Cornwall.
The 11 bedroom Victorian house hotel is within a days walking distance from Fowey - to the West of Looe and Portwrinkle - to the East. The free of charge service allows ramblers and walking enthusiasts to travel light, knowing their luggage will be in safe hands.
For visitors staying at Barclay House on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis, staff will collect luggage from a location within the Fowey to Portwrinkle stretch of coast meaning luggage can be at the hotel for guest arrival. Staff will also drop off luggage at the next journey destination within the same boundary, leaving keen walkers to discover the country walks of Cornwall both luggage and hassle free.
The stretch of coastline between Fowey and Portwrinkle is 20miles in length and also includes destinations such as Polruan, Polperro and Whitsand bay. With the ninth year of the South East Cornwall Walking Festival (19th – 23rd September) marking the start of the walking season, Autumn 2009 is an unequalled time to embark on a ramble through the unspoiled Cornish scenery.
Recently enhanced, the bedrooms offer guests a refuge from today’s hectic pace - an ideal bolthole for cosseting and enjoying the commanding views over the East Looe valley. The hotel boasts an AA Rosette winning restaurant, using the finest local produce including fresh “day boat” fish from the trawlers of Looe, Cornish cheeses and other regional delicacies creating a range of local dishes showcased by a daily changing seasonal menu. The restaurant's French doors open out to the terrace and gardens, overlooking the East Looe River valley where visitors can sample a refreshing glass of local wine whilst watching the sunset.
Also available are 8 luxury self-catering cottages. Perched above the hotel they are geared for couples, families or groups to share. One, two or three bedroom cottages feature a split level design to include en-suite bathrooms with Jacuzzi style bath tubs as well as a BBQ area and private balcony. Visitors can also take advantage of the heated outdoor swimming pool set in a natural sun-trap within extensive gardens.
Graham Brooks, resident proprietor of Barclay House comments “Autumn is definitely the best time to explore the Cornish coast with the hedgerows bursting with lots of features coming to life; and the cooler weather means a longer walk is more achievable. We are offering this new luggage service as many people have enquired about such a provision and we are always trying to anticipate guest needs at Barclay House.”
