Air France and Fnac: Music takes flight

27th May 2008 Print
On its long-haul flights, Air France is phasing in a new inflight entertainment programme that is constantly upgraded. When it comes to inflight music, Air France passengers can now listen to the very best of all types of music through a selection of albums that will be renewed each month, in some fifteen musical categories thanks to this latest partnership with Fnac.

The selection of 200 CDs totalling over 3,000 tracks, ranging from Jazz to Rock and from Classical to World Music, not forgetting music for children, reflects the cultural diversity both of Fnac, where diversity is one of the chain's key values, and of Air France's passengers.

Top of the bill each month are Fnac's hottest favourites. True to its commitment to support musical creation, the Fnac selection includes such hot discoveries as Le Sacre du Tympanum, The Do, Asa, Vampire Weekend, MGMT, and more.

And then there are the all-time greats of Rock, Soul, Rap, Electro, Jazz, Classical, and Variety, plus Children's musical favourites featuring: Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley, Natalie Dessay, Philippe Jaroussky, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour, Raphael, Camille, Radiohead, Coldplay, Justin Timberlake, REM, Amy Winehouse, Madonna, Air, Justice, and many more.

And of course, Air France there will be a ton of World Music for travellers from all over the world, including:

Ali Farka Toure, Salif Keita, Cheikha Rimitti, Ravi Shankar, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Buika, Tito Puente, Raul Paz, Lhasa, and Ray Barretto, to name but a few.

Passengers can learn all about these musicians in the Fnac news roundup in Air France Magazine and (coming soon) on airfrance.com.

"On our long-haul network, two-thirds of Air France passengers are non-French. The broad range of Fnac's music picks reflects the entire spectrum of musical tastes. Using the "playlist" feature, passengers can also compose their own musical menu through a compilation of their favourite tracks," says Patrick Roux, Air France Vice President Marketing.

“Air France is the first airline to use the professional skills and competence of a leading company in the distribution of cultural and leisure products in preparing its musical programme” he added.

Said Fnac CEO, Fabien Sfez: "Fnac operates in Spain, Italy, Greece, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal and Brazil. Its concept fits all cultures and its expertise is a dependable guarantee of quality in many countries. This partnership is a great opportunity for us to promote our concept worldwide."

Air France is the first European airline to offer so many seats equipped with in-seat video in all classes, with a total of 23,000 screens. To provide the best possible sound quality, Air France is the only airline to offer the Arkamis digital audio system.
