New greener arrival for Thomsonfly

Thomsonfly's first brand new Boeing 737-800 arrived in Luton from Seattle in January marking the beginning of the Thomsonfly fleet renewal programme.

The Boeing 737-800 will be followed in the coming months by two further 737-800 aircraft. All three of the new aircraft are fitted with fuel efficient winglets and follow months of Boeing and Thomsonfly working together on a number of joint environmental initiatives to further increase aircraft efficiency.

Colin Mitchell, managing director of Thomsonfly said, "We are embarking on the next era of the airline, making significant investments in our airline fleet to increase the efficiency of the aircraft and reducing the impact on the environment. These brand new Boeing aircraft are 12% more fuel efficient than the aircraft they replace - therefore significantly lowering the rate of emissions per passenger on the aircraft."

The first aircraft G-FDZA will be Luton based and will operate its first flight to Prague on 29 January. Passengers will enjoy leather recaro seats and in-flight entertainment on Paves drop down screens.

The new aircraft replace two 767 aircraft which the company sold to Silverjet - the all business class airline which had its inaugural flight last week.

Colin continued, "We take the environment very seriously and are constantly looking at how we can make our aircraft more efficient by examining aircraft routings, working closely with air traffic control to use direct approaches whenever possible and even encouraging our passengers to think about how much luggage they bring onto the aircraft."
