Thomsonfly to stop flying from Coventry Airport

22nd October 2008 Print
Thomsonfly has this month confirmed that operations from Coventry Airport will terminate this winter. An increased focus on charter flight operations since the merger of Thomson and First Choice last year has meant less of a focus on scheduled services, such as those operated by Thomsonfly from Coventry Airport.

Thomsonfly continues to operate from 23 airports across the UK, including those within easy reach of Coventry residents such as Birmingham, East Midlands, Doncaster, Luton and Stansted, Thomsonfly will continue to offer more regional departures than most other airlines operating from the UK.

The last outbound flights operated by Thomsonfly from Coventry Airport will be on the 2nd November 2008 and the last inbound flights to Coventry Airport will be on the 9th November, except for inbound flights from Jersey which will operate up to and including the 3rd November. Any customers with bookings for travel after these dates will be contacted over the next few days to arrange alternative travel plans or a refund.

Thomsonfly is currently working with its staff at the airport to discuss next steps and will endeavour to find replacement roles within the company where possible.

Chris Browne, Managing Director of Thomsonfly comments, "As part of the planning process, we continuously review our operations in the UK and Ireland to ensure we run as efficient a business model as possible. With an increased focus on charter holiday flights, there is now a growing need for our aircraft on these routes and consequently our scheduled operations at Coventry Airport will regrettably terminate.

“We will work with all our customers to ensure minimal disruption to any bookings and hope the many loyal people that have travelled with us from Coventry, will continue to benefit from our great value flights departing from other UK airports. We have had an excellent relationship with the airport to date and we would like to thank them for their support."

Thomsonfly recently merged with First Choice Airways and from May next year will be known as Thomson Airways. The airline will receive the UK's first delivery of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, currently scheduled for 2010. 23 Dreamliners have been ordered by TUI Travel PLC for long haul routes to replace existing aircraft within the current fleets, offering a completely new and more environmentally friendly experience.
