Tim’s story….

“In 1993 a mate of mine Jeff and I organised a chalet in Val d’Isere for 10 people. On arrival at we were greeted by the friendliest chalet girl I have ever met. Nothing was too much trouble, the food was fabulous (irrespective of budget), the wine was truly unlimited and the accommodation central and comfortable. During our holiday we all got to know Georgie (the chalet girl) really well. She proved to be the heart and soul of the party which usually meant that breakfast was late. As Jeff was there with his wife and I was there with my girlfriend, obviously nothing happened. The holiday finished, goodbyes were said and plans were made to think about where to ski the following year.

“We decided to go back to Val d’Isere. Sadly Georgie could not be our chalet girl as she had been promoted to chalet manager, but would be happy to join us for dinner one night. A week before the trip, my girlfriend pulled out due to work commitments, and so I travelled out to the Alps kind of single.

“A day or so into the holiday Georgie turned up for dinner. Dinner was followed by a bar crawl. As the evening wore on members of our party disappeared off to bed. Georgie and I spent another hour or so drinking all sorts of horrible cocktails. Eventually we left but really didn’t want to say goodbye. We decided to check into a hotel which is easier said than done at three in the morning.

“We convinced the night porter, Cyril, that we had just got married and were on honeymoon in Val d’Isere but were staying with friends and would therefore like just one night together, alone. Cyril took pity on us and offered us a suite for free as long as we only used the bed and not the bathroom. The next morning we had to be out by 7.30 when the duty manager commenced his shift. After a number of frantic calls from Cyril we eventually escaped undetected and wandered back to the chalet. The remainder of the holiday was spent in each other’s company as often as time allowed.

“Going back to England involved splitting up with my girlfriend, moving in with a mate and travelling back and forth to the Alps as often as I could for long weekends. We subsequently were married in 2001 and now have two amazing children, Freddie (three and a half) and Amber (19 months).”
