Love is in the air this Valentines – literally

26th January 2009 Print
Escaping the recession with a romantic break is high on the agenda for many British travellers this February 14th, with many planning to break out from the recession blues by having a frisky frolic en route to their destination.

A recent poll by Cheapflights.co.uk, the UK’s leading flight price comparison website where you can search and compare the most deals on the market, found 51 percent of viewers are hoping to join the Mile High Club when travelling to their Valentine’s break, with a further 21 percent considering joining the Club. Just 27 percent of Brits would rather keep it in their pants during their flight.

“Talk of the Mile High Club is normally accompanied by jokes, blushing cheeks and laughter,” says Nadine Hallak, Travel Expert for Cheapflights.co.uk.

“We wondered whether this age old ‘club’ held appeal for our viewers. It turns out the country is clambering over each other to join the Mile High Club as a start to their Valentine’s getaway.”

With the UK officially in recession, penny pinching will be replaced by bum pinching as Brits flock to enjoy some quiet time with their loved one. Still looking for a romantic Valentine’s break? Cheapflights.co.uk’s two new tips pages provide advice on where to find the perfect romantic hideaway.

The first, outlining The Perfect Romantic Getaway, comprises information on idyllic getaways to destinations like Balaton, Hungary and further afield to places like Las Vegas, USA. It also advises on how to plan your time, avoid the obvious, stick within your budget, do your research and much more.

If your wallet’s feeling stretched but you’d still like to get away, the website is also at hand to help with Romance on a Shoestring. Discover the art of romancing off the beaten track by swapping the traditional settings of Paris and Venice for more unique settings such as the birthplace of actress Zsa Zsa Gabor and three-time Oscar winning film composer Miklos Rosza, Budapest or Lithuania’s capital city, Vilnius.

This latter tips page also offers insider tricks on halving the cost of your break by taking it either earlier or later than Valentine’s weekend itself, advice on staying local, selecting alternative airports, and even staying in the UK.
