Be in the captain's seat in the fight against cancer

10th April 2008 Print
United Airlines is putting one lucky guest in the captain’s seat in the fight against cancer. In support of the American Cancer Society (ACS), United is auctioning off a behind-the-scenes tour and flight simulator experience at the United Airlines Flight Training Center in Denver, Colorado, including two domestic roundtrip tickets to Denver and one night’s accommodations at a Starwood hotel.

The item is currently available to bid on at ebay.com.

“We’re pleased to give our customers a fun way to contribute to an important cause – eliminating cancer as a life-threatening disease,” says Sonya Jackson, President – United Airlines Foundation. “Our customers have always been generous in contributing to the causes we support, and the funds raised through this auction will be critical in the everyday battles that the Society fights and wins.”

The funds raised will support the Society’s efforts to eliminate cancer as a life-threatening disease, educate individuals about cancer prevention, support those with the disease, and fund research to find new and better treatments. The auction is part of fundraising efforts associated with the ACS Illinois division’s annual gala, the Discovery Ball, which is being chaired this year by United CEO Glenn Tilton and his wife Jackie. United is the Presenting Sponsor of the Discovery Ball.

Earlier this year, United’s “Kenny Hugyou” campaign raised over $500,000 in cash and Mileage Plus miles for the Society and resulted in 10,000 teddy bears being delivered to children across the country undergoing cancer treatment.
