United offers enhanced experience for Military Personnel

20th August 2008 Print
United Airlines has announced policy changes to improve travel for active duty military personnel, including complimentary, space available access to United’s spacious Economy Plus seating area and the ability to check up to three bags free of charge.

"We are pleased to provide military personnel the unique benefit of extra legroom so that they can be more relaxed and comfortable throughout their travel experience," says Dennis Cary, senior vice president - Marketing. "We are honored to fly these men and women across the country and around the world, and we hope our updated policies will make their travels a little easier."

Military personnel traveling in uniform on active orders will be entitled to complimentary, space available access to Economy Plus when at the airport and traveling domestically and internationally. Economy Plus offers up to five extra inches of legroom at the front of the economy cabin.

United already has special policies and discounts for members of the military, including enabling active military personnel traveling on orders to check bags that are 115 linear inches - 53 linear inches more than other passengers - and to check bags up to 70 pounds free of charge, 20 pounds more than general members of United’s Mileage Plus program.

United also offers discounted military fares, waives phone reservation fees for these special, last minute fares, and waives the $150 cancellation fee for military personnel - and their family members who hold tickets to visit them - when they are activated for duty.

United’s previous policy for military personnel enabled them to check two bags free of charge.
