24th March 2009 Print
Fun for families at Salisbury Cathedral this Easter Salisbury Cathedral is running fun activities for children and their families during the Easter holidays with a free Easter trail, Young at Art activity sessions and Family Discovery Events, all organised by the Cathedral’s Education Department which has become well-known for its innovative work with school-aged children.

Sarah Rickett, Head of Education, said “The school holidays provide a great opportunity to do extra special things as families.” She added, “This beautiful Cathedral has always been proud of its role within the city and we hope these stimulating and entertaining holiday activities, delivered by my excellent team, will be enjoyed both by local families and those visiting the city at Easter.”

The Free Easter Trail can be enjoyed anytime from Saturday 11 April – Sunday 19 April. Simply ask for the new Easter Trail leaflet when you arrive at the Cathedral and help your children find out more about the Easter story through its simple questions and related activities. A special route in and around the Cathedral encourages parents and children work together to solve clues and find Easter themed items around the building and cloisters. The Trail is suitable for children aged 5yrs+ . Allow 1 hour.

‘Young at Art’ is a morning art workshop on Thursday 16 April and Friday 17 April from 10.00am – 12 noon for children aged 5 –11 years (split into 5-7 years and 8-11 years groups). Experiment with stone rubbings of different textures around the Cathedral and make a super-size collage. All materials provided. Parents may leave their children and relax knowing they are enjoying a safe, friendly and creative time. Workshops cost £2.50 per child per session.

‘Colour Crazy’ is an afternoon family discovery event around the Cathedral on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 April from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. Parents are encouraged to join their children to discover more about the colours of the Cathedral in the glass and textiles, then prepare to get messy and paint your own colour-crazy Cathedral view. Entry: £1 per family member (under 5s free).

No pre-booking is required for either ‘Young at Art’ or ‘Colour Crazy’ but you are asked to register your child/family at the reception point in the Cathedral Cloisters.
