Easter bargains in 'The Borders'

For 'Sassenachs' who fancy a bargain-priced Easter break 'North of the Border' but don't fancy a long drive, check out the offers in the Scottish Borders - an area as picturesque as the Highlands but considerably closer to home - from cottage agency, Ecosse Unique.

Properties on offer include 'Rose Cottage' - a beautifully converted early Victorian coach house - for just £295, a reduction of £50. This snug little property, with open fire, is set in gardens bordering the shallow River Ale, close to the market town of Melrose.

In the small Border's village of St Boswells, the company is highlighting 'Tweed Cottage', a traditionally Scottish, 19th century whitewashed terrace property. This two-bedroom (one ensuite) house now costs £295 for a week's stay, a reduction of £70.

Finally, for those who fancy a stay in a Scandinavian-style timber property, a seven-night stay in 'Glenburnie Lodge'- enjoying a tranquil countryside location in wooded grounds close to the village of Earlston - is now reduced to £345, saving £50.
