A fashionable Easter break in the Oresund region On a weekend to Oresund, you can discover two major cities in two countries, both known for their sophisticated and fun style, cutting designs and the latest in fashion.

Spring has finally truly arrived and with that the feeling it is time to clear out the wardrobes and make space for a new fresh look. But why still end up looking like everybody else?

Malmo and Copenhagen have the cure . . .

Why not take a short break to the Oresund area and stock up on the best of Scandinavian fashion and design? We guarantee you will come back with bags filled with super-cool items that will be the envy of all your friends and colleagues.

With SAS Scandinavian Airlines it is so easy to get there as they fly to Copenhagen directly from five UK airports. This means that in less than two hours you can arrive at Copenhagen Airport. From there you just hop on a high-speed train to Malmo, Sweden’s third largest city and by now you are ready to be impressed by Scandinavia’s latest trends.

A lot of the shops in this vibrant city are part of major indoor shopping centres like Hansa and Triangeln. However, take a stroll along Baltzargatan and Storgatan, the main pedestrian shopping streets and you will be very enthused by what you see in the fabulously decorated shop windows. Most shops here offer individual tastes and styles. Look out for Swedish brands like Tiger of Sweden and Acne, both designing for men and women alike.

Lilla Torg is a great little square to stop at, to have a refreshing coffee and do some serious people watching. In a courtyard just off this popular meeting place is where you find the Form/Design Centre. This is a real haven for picking up some quirky household goods or textiles and simply be inspired by the design exhibitions in the rest of the building. formdesigncentre.com

What next?

It’s back on the train across the Oresund Bridge and to the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen!

Where to start?

This city is full of fashion in every sense of the word; from international fashion houses to small basement designer shops, so typical of Copenhagen and where real gems can be found. Stroget is the longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe and home of Royal Copenhagen, Georg Jensen silver and Illums Bolighus, the latter a ‘must visit’ for the best in interior design. But maybe the most interesting boutiques are found in the side streets. Kronprinsensgade street offers fabulous shoes from Bruno & Joel and Notabene. Fashion names like Stig P, Bruuns Bazaar and Sabine Poupupinel and many other significant brands line this very attractive street.

Another good choice for style as well as the quirky is Kompagnistraede and Laederstraede running parallel with Stroget. One in particular worth a look-in is Stilleben which is full of fabulous ceramics, glass-ware and jewellery representing the work of some 30 designers. If you are into vintage and retro, just walk further up the street to Kitch Bitch, selling colourful clothes and household goods from the 50’s to the 70’s.

Wonderful Copenhagen has produced a 50-page guide to His & Her Copenhagen giving tips on shopping, design and eating out. This inspiring guide for the cool and trendy can be obtained free of charge – see vistidenmark.com/uk for more information.
