Spring into the Easter Bank Holiday

English Heritage Easter Eggs, Fairies, Sword Fighting, Knights and Squires. English Heritage has a fun packed programme of events over the Easter bank holiday weekend, ranging from traditional Easter egg hunts to medieval knights’ trails at historic sites across the country. An ‘egg-cellent’ collection of days out worth talking about!

Event Highlights

SOUTH EAST
Children’s Festival
Dover Castle and the Secret Wartime Tunnels, Kent
Mon 9 – Fri 13 April, 10am – 5pm
A week of fun and frolics for all of the family. Be amazed at the fabulous side-shows featuring the thrills of the bed of nails and skills of the fire eater. Laugh at the mad-cap antics of Peterkin the fool, and delight in the art of the puppeteer. Children have the opportunity to dress up and perform in plays written especially for them. An inspiring day out for kids of all ages! This event is supported by Ecclesiastical Insurance.

YORKSHIRE
The Abbey Arises
Rievaulx Abbey, North Yorkshire
Sun 8 – Mon 9 April, from 11am
Join the medieval pilgrims and the Lord of Helmsley to commemorate the 875th Anniversary of the Founding of Rievaulx Abbey. From noon each day accompany Walter Espec, his knights and warriors from Helmsley Castle to Rievaulx Abbey on a two mile walk crossing some steep ground. The walk will be led by Rangers from North Yorkshire Moors National Park. When the pilgrimage reaches Rievaulx Abbey there will be a welcome from Aelred and a whole weekend of living history begins. Witness displays of the noble art of falconry and medieval living history with Espec’s household.

Plantagenets: Medieval Life & Times
