Cycling in Croatia - get active in Gradac

15th August 2007 Print

Getting around by bike is one of the best ways to take advantage of a holiday in Croatia’s beautiful countryside. Hidden Croatia is pleased to have the perfect holiday package for those wishing to do so in Gradac, which is located halfway between Split and Dubrovnik. You will be staying at Hotel Marco Polo, named after the locally born adventurer, from where you can hire bicycles to have an adventure of your own.

Set in the Makarska Riviera, where the mountain of Biokovo meets the Adriatic Sea, Gradac offers spectacular views overlooking the Pelješac peninsula and the islands of Kor?ula and Hvar. Cycling is the ideal way to reach hidden parts of the Riviera, including abandoned old villages and chapels. All paths for cycling are signposted and the difficulty of the paths is divided into five levels, with one being the most traversable.

For a three and half hour tour on a grade three path, you will go upwards from the port through to the hamlet of Grma to the village of Studenac. From there the path is hewed into the rock (an old trading route), and a short while later the highlight of the tour will be revealed - reaching St. Ilija’s peak (773 m).

For the guests of Hotel Marco Polo, hotel staff will recommend the best and most interesting paths as well as providing some useful and helpful safety tips. The hotel also prefers to stay in touch with the guests while they are cycling, via mobile phone, in case of an emergency. Located right on the beach front in the centre of Gradac, this private hotel offers beautiful views, a lovely restaurant, and a fitness centre which includes a sauna, jacuzzi and sun terraces.

For two adults staying five nights in November on a bed and breakfast basis at the Marco Polo, price starts from £260.00. Price is accommodation only, in a double suite with sea side balcony.
