Inghams expands into winter sun

1st October 2008 Print

Inghams has launched a new Winter Sun programme across Europe. The new programme consists of Sicily, Morocco and the island of Madeira plus a programme of six independent walking holidays in mainland Spain, Mallorca, the Canaries and Madeira in conjunction with our sister company, Inntravel. The new programme is on sale from Monday 29th October 2008.

This move follows extensive market research demonstrating that Inghams is a very strong and trusted brand, currently recognised in the walking market in the summer with Inghams Lakes and Mountains as well as being the leading independent ski and villas specialist operator. Inghams found that existing customers regularly buy walking holidays to European destinations in the winter so this new product portfolio fits the needs of the Inghams customer completely.

As a perfect antidote to a British winter the following destinations have been hand picked; Sicily with its spectacular coastal scenery and rich heritage; Madeira, a luscious green Adriatic island famed for the Laurissilva forest (Portugal), the Berber capital of the south Marrakech (Morocco) and the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Holidays are available for 3, 4, 7, 10, 11 and 14 nights. In search of the warmth of southern Europe, Inntravel's detailed walking notes and maps, discover quiet trails through scenery rich in wildlife and explore timeless villages. These hidden treasures combine with friendly hotels, ranging from intimate agroturismos to elegant 5-star hotels. Many are family run and all serve delicious regional cuisine. Included are:

Madeira’s Waterways and Flowers – Whatever the season, walkers can expect a lavish green landscape with rich, colourful plant life. Much of the route hugs the levadas - the 15th century irrigation channels that criss-cross the mountainsides. Stay in high quality hotels, including two elegant 5-star quintas.

Mountains of Alicante – Although just 25kms from the Costa Blanca, the quiet mountains of Alicante in Valencia are perfect for a week of rewarding walking when combined with stays at welcoming country inns. This is a country of fertile valleys dotted with almond groves, craggy limestone peaks, dramatic ravines and Moorish castles.

Andalucia’s White Towns – Enjoy the slow rhythm of life in Spain’s southern mountains after the summer tourists have gone, walking in Grazalema Natural Park and soaking up the atmosphere of the pueblos blancos, including dazzling Ronda.

Scented Slopes and Mountain Lakes of Gran Canaria - A two-centre Discovery Walking holiday, with a choice of thrilling mountain routes through dramatic landscapes, staying at atmospheric colonial-style hotels including a secluded rural hotel close to the central massif. Car hire included.

Tenerife & El Teide – Few visitors experience the north-west corner of the island, one of the landscapes discovered on this two centre fly-drive touring holiday. Among the suggested walks is the magnificent ascent above the famous Masca Gorge – a truly memorable climax to a week’s walking.

Citrus Groves and Dramatic Coast of Mallorca – The rugged Tramuntana Mountains in Mallorca’s North-West provide a dramatic backdrop when using the efficient local transport system to take in the area’s many highlights and scenic walking routes provided. Return at the end of every day to the comfort of the highly acclaimed 4-star agroturismo, close to bustling Soller.

Litsa Constantinou, Inghams CEO says “After a pretty dreadful British summer we are confident that Inghams clients are looking to get some sun back into their lives during the winter. A growing number of British visitors are discovering winter walking, in sunny mountainous destinations as a refreshing, affordable and increasingly fashionable alternative to rambling in the UK.”

Every Inghams’ holiday represents excellent value for money. Prices start from £451 per person at the 3* Hotel Myriem in Marrakech on half board, including flights from Gatwick and transfers for seven nights. Regional airports are available at a supplement.

A week's independent walking with Inntravel amongst Andalucia's White Towns costs from £478 pp based on two sharing including seven nights B&B in 2- and 3-star hotels, 3 dinners, 2 picnics, walking maps and notes, and luggage transfers between hotels. Flights not included.
