21st June 2007 Print
Pupils of Sacred Heart Primary School in Penicuik George Wimpey East Scotland Ltd challenged the pupils of Sacred Heart Primary School in Penicuik, Midlothian to design Health & Safety posters that demonstrate the dangers of playing near a construction site.

Launched as part of an overall Health & Safety presentation to pupils, the company was keen to drive home the message of the dangers associated with playing near any construction site, and raise awareness of the children’s need to be extra vigilant as the company begins work on the construction of a new synthetic pitch in the park adjacent to Carlops Road near their school.

The quality of the children’s posters clearly show the company has got its’ message over as Kevin Mackenzie, of George Wimpey East Scotland explains: “We are delighted with the range and quality of the entries we received to our Health & Safety poster competition. It’s been a fun way to drive home a very important message about the dangers of playing near a construction site.”

The children have enjoyed their challenge as Mrs Mary Durkacz, head teacher of Sacred Heart Primary School adds: “George Wimpey understand the importance of our children’s safety and have created such an interactive and fun approach to appeal to our children. The children have enjoyed creating their posters, and I’m sure will be excited to see their work displayed around the safety fencing of the synthetic pitch site as they are to be put to great use to advise the general public of the danger and to keep well away.”

Winners of the competition in each of the three categories (pictured here at the front) each win a family activity day out in Ocean Terminal – with tickets for the cinema, the indoor climbing facility and a meal in one of the restaurants.
