It’s all in the name at Bathgate

30th May 2007 Print
Exterior at The Albion The name Albion is synonymous with Bathgate, a thriving business from yesteryear that provided vital employment – in fact the town’s largest employer - to those living in the town. Now, in recognition of the company’s history, the latest phase of the Charles Church housing development at Hermitage Grange will be named Albion Gardens.

The Albion Motor Car Company Ltd is the most famous in the industry to emerge from Scotland and was known worldwide for the slogan ‘Sure as the Sunrise’.

Founded in 1899, the company started life in Glasgow. It was taken over by Leyland Motors in 1951 before moving to Bathgate’s Leyland Plant in 1980 – where only two of its models remained in production following its acquisition by the British Leyland Motor Corporation – the Albion Clydesdale truck and the Albion Viking bus.

The car manufacturer no longer operates from Bathgate – now owned by American coming AAM – therefore, Charles Church was eager to acknowledge the town’s history with the naming of its latest development, which will be an eclectic mix of homes, which in tune with Albion, looks to cater for a majority in the potential buyers’ market.

The development will offer flats, townhouses and detached homes. Amenities in Bathgate are good. A mixture of traditional and modern shops aligns the High Street, there are supermarkets and good schooling is available.

Bathgate is a thriving community situated right on the M8 with excellent commuter links to both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Albion Gardens will be the third phase of Charles Church housing at Bathgate.

Charles Church is a well-known housing developer in the UK and known for usage of traditional materials when building and sympathy towards the surrounding ‘look’ of an area. The developer is known for large and spacious designs as well as particular attention to specification.
