Pride in the Job ‘first’ for young site manager

10th August 2009 Print
Pride in the Job ‘first’ for young site manager Martyn Campbell, one of Taylor Wimpey West Scotland’s youngest site managers, has secured his first NHBC Pride in the Job Award for his superb achievements at the company’s Dunsmuir Park development in Kilmarnock.

Recognised as the ‘Oscars of the House-building industry’ - Pride in the Job has been rewarding site managers with excellent standards on site for 29 years and Martyn has been hand-picked from thousands of site managers across the UK for an award this year.

At just 28 years old, Martyn has made an impressive start to his construction career. He began with the company 11 years ago in 1998 as an apprentice joiner. Through plenty of determination and lots of hard work over the years he has moved through the ranks from apprentice right up to achieve his present position of site manager in June 2007 – it’s a remarkable and inspiring journey for any young apprentice!

Dunsmuir Park is a substantial development of 92 homes with a wide mix of homes under construction including three bedroom semi detached, four bedroom detached as well as three and four bedroom townhouses. With 11 different styles of homes to construct, it’s a challenging development to deliver, but Martyn’s delighted to have secured his first Pride in the Job Award – and particularly happy that it’s for his first development as site manager as he explains:

“Winning an NHBC ‘Pride in the Job Award’ has made me immensely proud of the whole team at Dunsmuir Park. This is my first development as site manager, and the team has worked to consistently exceptional standards. They’ve risen to every challenge to ensure that we’re building award-winning homes for every one of our customers. Buying a new home is the single largest purchase our customers will make in life, and it’s crucial that we deliver an outstanding product every time.”

Martyn’s no stranger to success – off-site he’s a centre-half for Ayr United FC, a team that’s also enjoying great success this year with a move up to the First Division. Plus, Martyn’s also secured Taylor Wimpey West Scotland’s first STAR award (Site Team Achievement Recognition) – a national initiative which recognises site excellence across a number of criteria, and where a site manager and team perform in a consistent and outstanding way.

Congratulating Martyn on his NHBC Pride in the Job Award, Steven Laurie, Production Director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland comments: “To achieve this kind of industry recognition so early in his career represents a real mile-stone for Martyn. His first ‘Pride in the Job’ Award recognises the commitment and exceptional standards of both Martyn and his team at Dunsmuir Park. His recent success in Taylor Wimpey’s STAR Awards also underpins his achievements within the company and highlights his real talent.”
