Tough end at Landrake for Relentless MX

28th September 2009 Print
Martin Barr It was a tough end to the Maxxis British Motocross Championship for the Relentless Suzuki MX team at the weekend, as both Martin Barr and Scott Columb struggled to find a preferred set-up for the final round of the series at the Landrake track in Cornwall.

In MX2, Barr would start in promising form, making use of the well-graded track to qualify fourth quickest. But as the watered track dried, Barr would begin to slide down the order, finishing in a strong but disappointing for him sixth place. Running as high as third in the second race before slipping off, the RM-Z250 rider struggled to regain his rhythm, finishing in a lowly 16th place.

Martin Barr: "When the track was wet, the bike felt great, but as conditions dried, I really struggled to find a font-end set-up. After race one we checked everything, but there was nothing wrong. By the second race, I felt worse and just couldn't find the confidence to push harder. We had the potential to climb up the order this weekend, so I'm disappointed not to end the season improved in the standings, but obviously relieved to maintain fourth."

In MX1, Scott Columb struggled too with the Landrake track, ending qualifying in 14th. A gritty ride in the first race returned an eighth place for the RM-Z450 rider, before a crash in the second moto saw the New Zealander ride back from dead last to 12th at the flag.

Scott Columb: "It's been a tough weekend. I just couldn't find my rhythm and when it was starting to look positive in the second race I got caught up with Swanepoel and had to restart from dead last. In truth, although my results don't reflect it, the second race was a much better ride for me."

Rob Hooper - Team Manager: "Not quite how I planned to end the championship. When you consider some of the great results we've had this year, it's a shame it had to finish this way. For whatever reason Martin really struggled as the track dried out, and this affected his pace for sure. Scott looked great in the second race, but sadly it was too little too late. Of course the positive thing for us is that Martin ended up as the highest placed Suzuki in MX2 and if it wasn't for our set-up woes this weekend, he could have challenged for the runner-up spot."
