Retirees find an alternative to ‘bungalow living’ at Century Square

Retirees find an alternative to ‘bungalow living’ at Century Square Happy homebuyers Maureen and Ivan Mahon have found just the right alternative to ‘bungalow living’ – a new apartment at George Wimpey’s Century Square development in Halesowen in the West Midlands.

The retired couple were keen to give up the garden that came with their bungalow in Kidderminster, which was becoming harder for them to maintain, and to be closer to their daughter, Lisa, and grandchildren Anthony (6) and Thomas (3), who already lived in Halesowen.

“We had been looking around for other bungalows,” explains Maureen (64), “but we immediately found there aren’t that many of them available in Halesowen. Fortunately, Ivan’s sister recommended we take a look at the new homes available at Century Square, and when we saw the showhome we were very impressed.

“The two-bedroom apartment we chose has an en-suite to the main bedroom, which means I can just step into the shower rather than having a shower over the bath – it’s a lot easier for me because I have rheumatoid arthritis.”

Former engineer, Ivan (68) and Maureen, who used to work in Safeway supermarket in Harborne, chose the carpets and flooring for their new home before they moved in to their apartment, which also came with a lovely light wood fitted kitchen with integrated appliances included in the price.

“We’re very pleased with our new home in Halesowen,” adds Maureen. “We wanted a place that was convenient for the shops, and the doctor’s surgery and hospitals – all those sorts of things you need as you get older! Plus it’s lovely to be just around the corner from Lisa and the children.”

One quick-off-the-mark customer can now purchase the two-bedroom ‘Clayton’ coach house at Century Square – a contemporary first-floor apartment-style home with a private front door and entrance hallway.

Like the ‘Dallas’ design Maureen and Ivan chose, the ‘Clayton’ features an en-suite shower room to the master bedroom, a main bathroom, and a spacious lounge/dining room with open-plan fitted kitchen.

Boasting a Juliet balcony to the living areas and a single garage, this modern, maintenance-free home is ideal for first-time buyers, downsizers or young families, and like all homes at Century Square it comes with a 10-year NHBC warranty, offering peace of mind for a DIY-free lifestyle.

The ‘Clayton’ is priced £149,995, while customers can also choose three-bedroom homes from £179,995 or the four-bedroom ‘Marlow’ priced £249,995.

House-hunters interested in making their move to the development can take advantage of incentives for first-time buyers and George Wimpey’s easymover programme, through which customers with a house to sell can reserve their new home and then sit back and relax while the housebuilder helps to find a buyer for their current property.

Incentives can be tailored to homebuyers’ circumstances and are subject to availability. Further details are available from the Sales Executive.

Century Square enjoys an idyllic location within sight of the local cricket club, just a short walk from Halesowen town centre and within easy reach of the Worcestershire countryside and nearby Clent Hills.

Halesowen itself retains an historic character, with beautiful architectural features combining with modern shops, restaurants, cafes and cultural amenities. A traditional farmers’ market still runs on the second Saturday of each month.

The town offers plenty of outdoor pursuits, including green parks and recreation grounds, tennis courts, a bowling green, golf course and leisure centre. A selection of schools and Halesowen College of Further Education are also within easy walking distance of the development.

For commuters, Century Square affords excellent access to the M5 and Birmingham.
