Victorian laundry building scrubs up well in Braintree A 172 year old Victorian laundry has been transformed into a stunning two bedroom house at Old Saint Michaels, in Braintree. Leading restoration specialist, City & Country Group, has converted 29 St Thomas Court into a unique property which incorporates the original drying beams.

Tim Sargeant, Chief Executive, City & Country Group, comments: “29 St Thomas Court has been restored to a very high standard and all the original roof trusses, drying beams and windows have been preserved, to create a beautifully modern home, which oozes character. The property really is one of a kind, and the high quality finish coupled with the private patio certainly gives it the wow factor. I think it is likely to appeal to a young professional or young couple as the mezzanine level not only makes the most of the original features, but it can be used as a study or a guest bedroom.”

29 St Thomas Court is separated over two floors which are connected by a contemporary spiral staircase. The living area benefits from a double height ceiling and the mezzanine is currently used as a master bedroom, which features the trusses and drying roof beams. The property has four windows and two French doors which flood the entire space with light.

The contemporary kitchen has been specially tailored to the property and includes a range of stainless steel and integrated appliances. A French door connects the kitchen to a private outside space which has views over the professionally landscaped courtyard gardens. The spacious bathroom features stylish white sanitary ware, large mirrors and chrome brassware. The property also has an allocated car port or parking space.

Old Saint Michaels is a 172 year old former workhouse, which has been completely restored to create a mixture of stunning residential apartments and mews houses, and commercial properties. The striking Victorian buildings are set around beautifully landscaped courtyard gardens which have been designed to protect original trees, whilst encouraging birds and other wildlife into the heart of the development.

Old Saint Michaels is located on Rayne Road, a short distance from Braintree town centre and railway station. Trains from Braintree station to London Liverpool Street run regularly and take just over an hour.

29 St Thomas Court is priced at £225,000. Prices for other properties at the development start at £142,500 for a one bedroom apartment and £172,500 for a two bedroom apartment. For further information, visit: oldsaintmichaels.co.uk
