Edinburgh voted top city to ‘see before you die’!

24th September 2009 Print

Walking out of Waverley Station and seeing the iconic silhouette of Edinburgh Castle against the skyline is enough to stop most visitors in their tracks.

But just recently, Scotland’s Capital city, Edinburgh, already a ‘must see’ for tourists worldwide, has been given the honour of coming top in a list of British cities to “see before you die”!

A survey conducted by hotel chain Travelodge interviewed over 5,500 adults and Edinburgh came up trumps, beating Liverpool, voted European City of Culture in 2008 as well as London in the top 10 UK cities to “see before you die”. It would seem Edinburgh is the place everyone wants to visit. It’s not surprising really as there is plenty to see and do including; Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Royal Yacht Brittania making Edinburgh an award winning, world class tourist destination.

There is fierce competition in making it into the top ten and Edinburgh proved itself in being a top class destination, with the Edinburgh accent also getting the thumbs up, being voted the “sexiest accent” in Britain.

With 2009 marking the year of ‘Homecoming Scotland’, there has never been a better time to visit Edinburgh. The Edinburgh Festivals are over, there’s a slight chill in the air and the streets are quieter making it the perfect time for a visit.
