Two’s company on Antigua

12th October 2009 Print

With the new term underway, now is the time to turn some attention to your partner and rejuvenate your relationship at the Jolly Beach Resort & Spa on the Caribbean island of Antigua.

The all-inclusive resort offers the perfect escape for a couple wanting to indulge in some quality ‘together’ time, but at value-for-money prices that mean you don’t need to sell the children to pay for it.

A typical day relaxing together in the tropics might start at the Palms Wellness Centre, the resort’s exclusive spa, gym and beauty salon for a work-out, followed by an invigorating couples massage in the spa. Fully unwound, perhaps undertake some afternoon lounging at one of the resort’s two swimming pools. Couples often opt for the tranquil smaller pool, which is tucked away behind a screen of palm trees, yet conveniently close to the bar, where refreshing coolers made with local fruit including the Black Antiguan Pineapple and mango are served by friendly staff.

As evening draws in, cool off with a dip in the ocean and take a sunset beach stroll, try out the resort’s signature cocktails in the water-fronting Hammock Lounge, and then slip away for a candle-lit dinner on the beach.

Thomas Cook (thomascook.com) is offering seven nights at the Jolly Beach Resort and Spa from £769, departing on British Airways from Gatwick on October 28. The price includes transfers and all-inclusive accommodation in a standard room.

The resort is located on a stunning, mile-long white-sand beach and has five bars and restaurants on site; four night-lit tennis courts; two swimming pools; two full-court basketball courts; games room; as well as the Palms Wellness Centre. All rooms are air-conditioned and face the ocean; each has a patio or balcony, direct-dial phone, cable TV, hair-dryer and rentable safe. Room upgrades and secluded cottages along the beach are also available at a supplement.

The resort is also featured by other leading operators including Thomson Worldwide, Kuoni, British Airways Holidays, Virgin Holidays and Hayes and Jarvis.
