A Christmas ‘cottage’ complete with chopper ride

11th November 2009 Print

Paradigm Farm isn’t an ordinary holiday cottage at the best of times, but a festive break at this award-winning property in the Lake District will be even more memorable thanks to a free helicopter flight from the farm’s own helipad!

Owners Mark and Jan have converted their 18th century farmhouse and its adjoining hay barn – in six secluded acres in the northern Lakes – into two outstanding holiday homes and won Visit Britain gold status in doing so.

Both the House and the adjoining Barn have been creatively re-furbished. Stone fireplaces, slate floors and beamed ceilings are combined with 21st century kitchens and bathrooms, vast sofas, super-king-size beds and extra touches such as a welcome hamper stuffed with Cumbrian food, champagne, bathrobes, a sophisticated sound system and a hot tub under the stars.

Jan will, on request, prepare a home-cooked meal and discreetly leave it in the oven for guests while Mark, who commutes to work by helicopter, invites guests to join him for the flight* over Loweswater, Buttermere and the fells to land at Honister Slate Mine.

Each property has two double bedrooms and two bathrooms – perfect for couples or families with children aged 12 or over – and each will be dressed for the festive season with its own Christmas tree and decorations.

Christmas week – arrive 20 December for seven nights – in Paradigm House or the Barn costs £1,200 booked through Cumbrian Cottages, including all the trimmings mentioned.  The House is also available over New Year at the same cost.
