Big savings to be made in Southern European cities in November
Average European hotel prices are thirteen percent less in November in comparison to October 2009. Weekend breaks to Venice, Rome and Madrid are particularly favourable this November. These are the findings of the trivago Hotel Price Index (tHPI) which is published monthly by the hotel price comparison site trivago.co.uk.
The tHPI for the month of November shows that the average price for a standard double room is thirteen percent less than the previous month and six percent less than this time last year. In Paris travellers pay twelve percent less than in October. Also in Berlin, which celebrates the twenty year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall that divided the east and west, hotel prices are 14 percent more favourable than the previous month.
Cheap hotel rates in top European cities
City travellers can save a lot of money in the typically high-priced European cities in November. In Rome the average price for a standard double room is 104 pounds, 30 percent less in comparison to the previous month. Further cities that offer particularly favourable hotel prices in comparison to October 2009 are Florence (86 pounds), Madrid (87 pounds), Cannes (97 pounds) and Paris (125 pounds). In Dublin average overnight accommodation prices are less than 90 pounds for the first time this year: at 87 pounds for a standard double room the rate is 19 percent less than November 2008.
Most expensive and most favourable cities
Prague and Budapest are two of the most favourable cities to visit in November, the average price for a hotel room is 62 pounds, travellers to Lisbon pay 76 pounds. Krakow is especially cheap; a standard double room is 53 pounds which is decline of 22 percent in comparison to the previous month. The most expensive city in November is Geneva (171 pounds). London also remains expensive at 131 pounds for a double room. Hotel prices are also expensive in the major Scandinavian cities. In Stockholm average overnight accommodation is 142 pounds and in Copenhagen 138 pounds. In Oslo hotel prices are at their highest level so far this year at 156 pounds.
Average hotel prices in the United Kingdom are the same as the European average
Even though average hotel prices in the United Kingdom are the same as the European November average they have moved up three positions and the United Kingdom is now ranked the 10th most expensive destination in Europe; the average price for a double room is four percent more than the previous month at 95 pounds. The cheapest average hotel prices can still be found in Wales (85 pounds), followed by Northern Ireland (88 pounds) and Scotland (91 pounds). England has the most expensive hotel prices in November 2009 at 96 pounds, but still shows a decrease of five percent in comparison to the previous month. In British cities, the largest decrease in hotel prices can be seen in Edinburgh and Manchester (nine percent). The only British city to see a big rise in prices is Birmingham (82 pounds), average hotel prices have increased by eleven percent; this could be due to numerous events in the NEC throughout November, including the BBC Good Food Show.

The average prices for a standard double room are calculated on the basis of 40,000 daily price inquiries for overnight hotel stay generated through the trivago hotel price comparison. trivago stores all hotel enquiries for each month and therefore gives an overview of hotel accommodation prices for the upcoming month.
