Peaceful village life in Aldridge is a dream come true

When Nick Brookes and Carole King decided to leave their home in Aldridge, near Walsall, finding the perfect place in a peaceful rural village was right at the top of their relocation agenda.

Aware of their desire to swap town for country, a friend suggested they take a look at George Wimpey’s Canalside Wharf development in the quiet Staffordshire community of Weston.

One visit to this charming collection of homes nestled alongside a picturesque stretch of the Trent and Mersey Canal, and the couple knew it was the place for them. Now Nick and Carole are happily settling in to their brand new home.

“As soon as we heard about Canalside Wharf, we were interested because we knew Weston was a very friendly village in a lovely rural setting,” remembers adult education teacher Nick (47).

“We came to see it without any preconceptions about the type of home we might be looking for, and straight away we found the mixture of homes at the development attractive in that each one was individual.

“The thing that finally sold us on the house we chose was that it overlooks the canal – it’s right next to the water and the view is just fantastic.”

After reserving their three-bedroom link-detached ‘Loxley’ housetype, the next step for Nick and healthcare assistant Carole was to sell their existing home.

Although the pair were content to put the property on the market themselves, George Wimpey’s Canalside Wharf sales team offered them an easy solution they could not resist.

Thanks to the housebuilder’s Part Exchange scheme, they received a great price for the house as well as peace of mind in knowing that they could sit back and relax until their new home was ready to move in to.

Nick says: “The key advantage for us was that we could remain in our house while our new home was being built and didn’t have to worry about moving in to rented accommodation or staying with family.

“We visited Canalside Wharf every couple of weeks to see how things were progressing and it was great to see our home develop bit by bit – quite exciting really!”

Since moving in to their brand new house at the beginning of October, Nick and Carole have been impressed with the quality of the build and finish, as well as with the thoughtful way in which it has been designed to maximise the living space.

“We’ve got three lovely large bedrooms, a good-sized kitchen and a nice big lounge,” Nick adds. “The management of the space is very impressive and we are very, very pleased with the build quality.”

A choice of stunning new homes is available now at Canalside Wharf for house-hunters like Nick and Carole in search of laid-back living in an enviable location.

Prices at the development range from only £128,500 for a delightful one-bedroom ‘Clifton Special’ apartment, to just £230,500 for a sumptuous three-bedroom ‘Fradley’ semi-detached home.

Ideal for growing families or couples looking for luxurious home comforts, the ‘Fradley’ features a wonderful, open-plan kitchen/dining room with access to the private rear garden, a large lounge and a guest cloakroom off the entrance hallway.

Upstairs, the landing leads to a master bedroom with fitted wardrobes, as well as two further well-proportioned bedrooms and a family bathroom.

All new homes at Canalside Wharf benefit from either a garage or allocated parking, and are finished to a high-standard specification, including double glazing, central heating and fitted kitchen with integrated oven, hob and hood.

As an alternative to the Part Exchange scheme which made Nick and Carole’s move so simple, George Wimpey offers a range of other money-saving incentives for first-time buyers and those with a home to sell, which can be tailored to homebuyers’ circumstances and are subject to availability.

Canalside Wharf enjoys a beautiful setting on the edge of the former farming community of Weston, which provides all the benefits of laid-back and traditional village living.

A range of everyday local amenities is close at hand, including a post office, a pub, a children’s playground, a doctor’s surgery and a village hall, with plenty of opportunities for relaxing countryside walks and cycling also nearby.

The lively town of Stafford lies just a few miles away with its rich variety of shops, places to eat, leisure facilities and nightlife. The town’s railway station provides regular services to London, Birmingham and Liverpool, while the M6 is only a 15-minute drive from the development.

To find out more about the brand new homes and homebuyer incentives available at Canalside Wharf, visit the Sales Centre, located off Saltworks Lane, Weston, and open Thursday to Monday from 11am to 5pm.
