First time buyers get a head start at Haswell Meadows

No less than six first time buyers have been able to make the move into home ownership at David Wilson East Midlands’ Haswell Meadows development in Barwell thanks to the housebuilder’s Head Start payment deferral scheme.
Daniel Tallis and his girlfriend Laura Carnall, Michael Lane and his fiancée Samantha Killeen as well as Guy Brightmore and his girlfriend Shanie Evans have all taken advantage of the housebuilder’s Head Start scheme which allowed them to initially move in for just 85 per cent of the asking price.
Designed to make the buying process more affordable, in what is one of the toughest economic climates of recent years, David Wilson’s Head Start scheme is ideal for those who want to buy a place of their own but are having affordability issues.
“Shared equity deals like Head Start are proving increasing popular with first time buyers looking for a helping hand onto the property ladder.” comments Philip Lacey, Sales Director at David Wilson.
“With lendors expecting a far larger deposit than ever before, we’re finding many first time buyers are struggling to save enough money to secure a mortgage but deals like Head Start are proving a lifeline to prospective homeowners and I’m thrilled we’ve been able to help these six first time buyers realise their dream of home ownership.”
Daniel Tallis, 23, and his girlfriend Laura Carnall, 21, are both from Barwell and were looking to buy a house in the area so they could stay close to family. After looking around a number of second hand properties, they visited Haswell Meadows and Head Start proved to be the deal breaker that allowed them to bite the bullet and buy a home of their own.
Administrator Laura comments “Buying a home is extremely expensive, especially for first time buyers, but Head Start has made the process a lot more affordable and without it we definitely wouldn’t have been able to afford to buy.
“With lower house prices, I think now is a perfect time to buy, especially if you can take advantage of shared equity deals like Head Start. The current market and this deal has allowed us to buy a home of our own without overstretching our budget, it’s just perfect.”
25 year old Michael Lane and his fiancée Samantha Killeen, 22, have been engaged for almost a year. They had planned to save hard in order to buy a home of their own but after Michael’s Dad saw an advert for Head Start in the local press, they looked around and fell in love with the development straight away.
“The only reason we could afford to buy was thanks to Head Start.” comments Michael, who works as a Product Manager. “We found this deal very helpful and without its financial assistance we would both still be living with our parents.
“The house and development are perfect and we fell in love as soon as we looked around. It was extremely nerve-wracking waiting for the mortgage to come through but Head Start gave us the best possible chance of getting a foot on the property ladder, and we’re more than happy to be living together in a home of our own.”
Guy Brightmore, 23, and his 20 year old girlfriend Shanie Evans, were looking to get onto the property ladder but a lack of deposit meant they could not afford to secure a mortgage. Head Start provided the perfect solution.
Reprographics Assistant, Shanie, comments “With lower house prices, now seemed like a great time to buy and we wanted a place of our own but were struggling to save a big enough deposit.
“We saw the advert for Head Start and after visiting the development and finding our more, we decided to go for it as this would be the only way we could afford to buy.
“We’re all settled in now and are really enjoying living together as a couple. Head Start is a fantastic scheme and I would definitely recommend it to other first time buyers.”
Head Start is not a shared ownership scheme; homebuyers own 100 per cent of the property from day one. There is no rent or interest to pay on the deferred amount, it is simply paid back as 15 per cent of the property’s open market value at any time up to the point of resale or within ten years, whichever is sooner.
Located on The Common, Haswell Meadows comprises a superb selection of three- and four- houses in a pleasing location within the village of Barwell.
The development benefits from a good range of local amenities including shops, takeaways and public houses whilst Leicester city centre is close at hand.
Prices at the development start from £179,995.
