Homeless people in the Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Humber area will be putting their feet up in stylish surroundings after a donation of furniture to the local YMCA by developer Redrow Homes.

A stylish cream sofa, two double beds, a single bed, side tables and a dining table with chairs will be used to furnish accommodation used by young people who are in need of a temporary place to call home.

The furniture is from a former show home at the award-winning developer’s Fox’s Fold venture in Barton-upon-Humber.

The donation has been welcomed by the Grimsby Cleethorpes and Humber Region YMCA, a charitable organisation which provides short-term accommodation in the community for up to 93 people in addition to strong partnership working with other local services and organisation to support clients in finding employment, training and help with health or other problems.

Leah Hamilton for the GCHRYMCA, said: “We are delighted to accept the donation from Redrow Homes as it will make a practical and  positive difference to the lives of clients who live within our move-on accommodation.

“In the current economic climate we have seen an increased demand in our services yet a stark decline in the number of donations we receive and the generous gift of furniture that Redrow have made couldn’t have come at a better time.  In being able to furnish a property with such good quality ‘virtually new’ items, young people for many years to come will continue to benefit”.

Founded over 160 years ago, nationally the YMCA now has 160 established charities, which provide assistance to young people in over 250 communities throughout England. On average, it works with over one million people each year offering guidance on seven separate areas including; housing and homelessness, health and fitness, crime and safety, careers and money, education and skills, personal development and parenting and family.

Patsy Aicken, Redrow sales manager, says: “Community work is always very important to Redrow, especially in the areas in which we are building. With our show home at Fox’s Fold sold in readiness for a brand new show home to promote our latest housing range, we wanted to find a good home for the furniture which - because it’s only been used for ‘show’ - is virtually new.

“We were delighted when the Grimsby Cleethorpes and Humber Region YMCA came forward and hope it will make a difference to those people needing temporary shelter.”

As well as new homes at Fox’s Fold, Barton, Redrow is also building at Kirk’s Paddock in Scartho Park, Grimsby.
