Skidding on wet roads is motorists’ biggest fear

2nd December 2009 Print

A consumer poll has indicated that half of all drivers in the UK put skidding on wet roads as their worst nightmare and with the huge increase in rainfall in the past few weeks across the country the concern is very real.

Almost 1,000 motorists took part in the poll arranged CCB fast.MAP for the tyre retail website mytyres.co.uk, and 55% put skidding out of control as their worst nightmare. Breaking down on the road was the second highest fear and interestingly getting a puncture only concerned 3% of motorists.

With the evidence of more and more drivers putting off the purchase of replacement tyres because of the economic conditions, the likelihood of skidding accidents has risen considerably, particularly with the above average rainfall being experienced by many parts of the UK.

Road safety campaigners recommend that drivers should not leave their tyres to wear down to 1.6mm – the legal minimum – but should start to consider replacing them at around 3mm. mytyres.co.uk makes online tyre buying easy, convenient and value for money. Tyres can be delivered to the purchaser’s home or place of work, or to one of 1,700 tyre fitting locations recommended by mytyres.co.uk.
