Vauxhall retail sales soar by more than double in November

Vauxhall posted retail sales of 6,643 cars during November, a year on year increase of 128 per cent, according to figures issued by the Society of Manufacturers and Traders.

The figure not only trounces that from November 2008 when Vauxhall achieved 2,915 retail car sales as the recession took hold, but also shows a marked rise from a relatively buoyant November 2007, when retail sales hit 5,901.

But Vauxhall’s success in November didn’t stop there. Sales of commercial vehicles nearly doubled, with 590 Vauxhall vans finding new homes, compared with 316 vehicles sold in the same month last year. And, as with retail car sales, November ’09 sales overtook those from a pre-recessionary November 2007.

“This is excellent news for Vauxhall and its dealers,” said Rory Harvey, Retail  Sales Director. “Even taking into account the effects of the government’s scrappage scheme, our retail car sales are still up over 55 per cent, which proves that our products are increasingly chosen by private buyers who are attracted to the Vauxhall brand, and not just those who run our cars through their companies.”

The news came on the eve of the new Astra’s retail launch next Friday, and bodes well for the UK-built car’s sales success in Britain, its largest single market in Europe.

Another Vauxhall model which has enjoyed immense sales success – from a retail and fleet perspective – is the Insignia. The UK has again proved to be the dominant market in Europe for the 2009 European Car of the Year, taking around 44 per cent of all sales. The Insignia also led D-sector sales soon after it went on sale in January this year. To date, nearly 39,000 Insignias have been sold in the UK.
