Thor makes noise with Disney

Respected automotive engineers Thor Racing recently had an ear-splitting few days at the office, providing the soundtrack for the latest Disney computer driving game, ‘Split Second’.

Working with Disney’s partners at Media Mill, the Kenilworth based outfit played host to an eclectic mix of sports and super cars, using its super-accurate Dyno Dynamics hub dyno cell to act as a recording studio, allowing Media Mill’s sound engineers to set up numerous microphones and record the cars at every conceivable throttle setting and load.

Present during the sessions were Aston Martins, Ferraris, Jaguar XKs, Maseratis and even the Bullitt Mustang! Each was driven in all manner of simulated situations to create a truly authentic soundtrack to delight gamers everywhere.

Providing aural delights for software developers is by no means a new development for the Thor team however. As well as assisting with production for Bizarre Creation’s ‘Project Gotham Racing’ series, they have also provided the skills and facilities for ‘Colin McRae Rally creators Codemasters. In fact, the THOR dyno cell is becoming something of a media star in its own right, having also been chosen by the producers of ‘Fifth Gear’ for its replicable accuracy (and operator skill, naturally) during two fuel comparison consumer tests.

Explaining their media appeal, Thor MD Peter Betts said. "I think we know now what it is that developers and producers need from a venue, which helps to save them time and money. We’ve done a lot of this type of work and with each job, you learn how to make life easier for the production team. Try us. We’re here to help!"

The good news is, you don’t need to be a Hollywood games studio or big-time TV exec to gain access to Thor’s dyno cell. It’s commercially available to any freelance mappers, race teams or discerning private owners that want reliable accurate measurements and good old fashioned customer service.
