HPI Check provides buyers with vehicle performance data

20th January 2010 Print

HPI has become the first premium car history checking service to provide buyers with vehicle performance data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), free with every HPI Check.  This means buyers are not only protected against purchasing a car with a hidden history, but are also given invaluable information from the SMMT on the fuel economy and engine performance of a vehicle, helping buyers make an informed and cost-effective purchase decision.

Nicola Johnson, Consumer Services Manager at HPI comments, “The new data from the SMMT will really help give used car buyers the fullest possible picture when buying their next used car. All too often when purchasing a vehicle, buyers rely on just what they can see. This extra data, alongside the information provided by the HPI Check, will ensure they get the vehicle’s specification information, as well as fuel economy figures.”

Used car buyers can now research the performance and specifications of the vehicle they’re interested in, which provides an advantage when ensuring any potential purchase fits their needs. The enhanced HPI Check, which now includes car performance data gives used car buyers information on how quick, green or economical the vehicle is. The information is clearly displayed in 4 categories:

Vehicle Description - The vehicle description provides a summary of the car's specification.

Vehicle Economy - Information on fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions will indicate the ongoing running costs of the car and its environmental impact.

Vehicle Performance - The technical information provided describes the engine layout, performance, power and specification.

Vehicle Dimensions - The length, width and height of the car.

Concludes Nicola Johnson: “The HPI Check is the industry’s number one tool in providing used car buyers with peace of mind, allowing them to make an informed buying decision using our unrivalled records. We strongly advise buyers to purchase an HPI Check, which includes a unique stolen V5 document check as standard, confirming whether or not the document is one that the DVLA has notified HPI as being recorded as stolen.   It will also reveal whether the car is registered as stolen with the police, has been written-off by an insurance company, or has outstanding finance against it.”

When buyers purchase an HPI Check, the mileage of the vehicle is also automatically cross-referenced against HPI’s extensive National Mileage Register (NMR) as standard. HPI boasts one of the most comprehensive mileage registers in the UK with a database containing over 135 million mileage readings. This gives car buyers extra assurance when conducting an HPI Check and helps tackle the problem of clocking.

Finally, the HPI Guarantee provides up to £30,000 financial reimbursement in the event of the car not being everything it seems – including a clone – or the data held by HPI being inaccurate at the time of the check being conducted.  The HPI Check is the only history check that includes clone cover in its guarantee*.
