The owners of a Windermere Bed & Breakfast are celebrating their first anniversary by donating half of their rooms to couples affected by last November’s flooding in Cumbria.

Paula and Graham Smith of Lingmoor B&B on Windermere’s High Street have called, through Cumbria County Council’s Flood Bulletin, for couples that have had their homes flooded to email yourcumbria@cumbriacc.gov.uk for the opportunity of being selected to enjoy a free night’s stay with bed and breakfast on Saturday 6th February.

Paula and Graham’s property is well-known to millions of viewers of the popular Channel 4 programme, ‘A Place in the Sun, Home or Away’, which was first broadcast in June last year.

The couple had been searching for their perfect property for over four years before deciding to contact the programme for help. Finally, thanks to the TV show, their dream home of the Lingmoor was discovered and on Saturday 6th February, they will have been at the helm for a full 12 months.

The couple said: “We were fortunate not to have been affected by last year’s flooding and couldn’t fail to be moved by the images of people’s homes and personal possessions being destroyed. We want to offer couples’ the opportunity to spend a precious night away from the pressures of cleaning up their homes and hope that they will enjoy their time with us at the Lingmoor.

“Since we bought the Lingmoor, it hasn’t been plain sailing for us. We have had our ups and downs, but these are small in comparison to those people that have had their homes and businesses flooded. We have no regrets about our move to Cumbria and are looking forward to the challenges and rewards that will come our way over the next 12 months.”

Jonnie Irwin, presenter of A Place in the Sun, said: “After taking the plunge to buy Lingmoor Guesthouse, I’m very pleased and proud that Paula and Graham have made a success of what has been a very difficult and testing first year and the manner in which they are helping some of the flood victims just goes to show that the Lake District is very much open for business and pleasure.”

The Lingmoor will also be running a special promotion throughout February (excluding Valentine’s weekend) to coincide with the re-opening of Lucy’s Bar & Restaurant in Bowness on Windermere. Two nights bed and breakfast accommodation with one-nights dinner at Lucy’s for just £130pp. Visit lingmoor-guesthouse.co.uk for more details of all of their current special offers.
