When Maxine French got engaged to John Babington at the Four Seasons Hotel in Dunholme, Lincolnshire, on Valentines Day 23 years ago, little did they know that they would one day buy a new home at the site.

Playing host to the likes of Les Dawson, Little and Large, Frankie Howerd, The Krankies, Jimmy Cricket, Joe Longthorne, Des O'Connor, Freddie and the Dreamers, Bobby Davro and many more, the hotel became a regular haunt for celebrities taking a break from playing to packed audiences at Skegness theatres during the 1970s and 1980s.

But when the hotel was demolished in 1990, after remaining derelict for a number of years, Miller Homes East Midlands built an exclusive development of 26 three, four and five-bedroomed homes on the site.

Following a visit to the Falcon Heath development, Maxine (47) and John (45), decided that the fond memories they had of the area made it the perfect location for their dream home.

Maxine commented: “We went to the old Four Seasons Hotel on Valentines night in 1978 and it was a real night to remember. Not only did John ask me to marry him but the cabaret singer sang Moon River to me, which at the time was my favourite song.

“One Saturday towards the end of last year we decided to call in at Falcon Heath and that was when we found our ideal home. We had previously lived in Welton at another development but it was like living in a concrete jungle.

“Here at Falcon Heath, the development is well placed within a rural location and it also boasts a close knit community. We were so taken with the house, that we visited the development every single weekend until we finally moved in.”

If music is the food of love, the couple can now listen to their favourite song in their new Shakespeare home, a three-bedroomed detached property boasting a roomy third bedroom.

“The huge third bedroom was the main draw for us as our 13-year-old daughter could have a larger room. We also loved the fact that the living room is towards the back of the property which makes it a really private place to live.”

The couple decided to opt for the Miller Homes part-exchange scheme, as they wanted a hassle free move with no upward chain.

Maxine, who works as an art technician at the nearby William Farr School, continued: “The part-exchange scheme was a brilliant choice for us because I am a worrier and I did not want to be in a chain.”

Miller Homes East Midlands’ sales director, Joy Goodman, commented: “It really is fantastic that the Miller Homes’ part-exchange service has been able to help Maxine and John to purchase their ideal property.

“Buying new, it is often the most affordable and best value option for many, and Miller Homes prides itself on offering the schemes to make that possible.”
