Live like a Laird at Castle Lachlan
Newly-added to Scottish Cottages’ portfolio is magnificent Castle Lachlan on the eastern shore of Loch Fyne in Argyll.
Home of the 25th chief of the MacLachlan Clan, a self-contained and very grand wing of this 19th century castle in the Scottish Baronial style is now a four-storey, seven bedroom holiday home with sea views.
Special features of this amazing house include a Steinway grand piano in the drawing room, a billiard room with full-size table, sweeping staircases, Italian marble fireplaces, hunting trophies and no less than 1,500 acres of ‘garden’ to explore.
These include three miles of shoreline accessible mostly on foot, including the ruins of Old Castle Lachlan destroyed by the English in 1647, in retaliation for the Clan’s support of Bonnie Prince Charlie.
Of course Castle Lachlan is fully-equipped for self-catering, but lazy would-be Lairds can hire a Cook and daily housekeeping help at extra cost. The castle has parking for 10 cars, welcomes one or two dogs and is also licensed for civil weddings.
A week’s rental (including all heating and linen) in March is £2,250 rising to £2,450 in the summer. The Castle sleeps up to 15 people.
