Spring into action and get settled for summer

12th February 2010 Print

With spring just around the corner – and a General Election looming – estate agents Harrison Murray are advising people to act now to ensure they are settled into a new home by this summer.

A current steady market has seen a pleasing start to 2010, with the anticipation of the half term and Easter holidays encouraging more potential buyers and sellers to start the ball rolling.

However, with much talk about a General Election in May there is a potential risk of the housing marketing grinding to something of a halt – and people pausing to see what happens under a potential change of Government.

Harrison Murray commercial director Nick Salmon said: “The first few weeks of the New Year have certainly shown some signs of improvement as far as the market is concerned – and now is a great time to act if you are looking to move in the next few months and be settled into a new home this summer.

“While Spring is traditionally a time when people start the process- we would encourage them to get on with it because the General Election is looming and, when called, it will cause a lot of people to pause.

“Many people tend to have knee jerk approach to putting their property on the market – waiting until they see a For Sale board on a home they like, and then hoping to sell their own.

“However, the danger is that the property may be snapped up by someone who doesn’t have anything to sell – and we are seeing more and more of that these days.”

Nick added: “A delay in putting your own home on the market could lead to the house of your dreams being sold to someone else. If you want an offer to be taken seriously, it is vital that you have a buyer for your own property – and that will only happen if you get it on the market.”
