Design students visit a stylish BASE

Students from Barking & Dagenham College had a creative day recently, when they visited Crest Nicholson’s BASE development in Brentwood as part of their BTech Diploma in Art and Design.
The day, organised by award winning housebuilder Crest Nicholson, saw the students visit the stylish new show apartment to gain an insight into the trends and techniques that are currently being used in interior design.
The students, aged 16-22 years, are currently working on a project to design a one or two bedroom show apartment and the visit to BASE was designed to help inspire them. Barking & Dagenham College chose to study the development because of Crest Nicholson’s excellent reputation in the local area and the relevance the development has to the local community.
Resha Joseph, a student at Barking College comments: “I found it really useful to actually view the site and experience first-hand how professional interior designers develop concepts for big developers like Crest Nicholson. We were given the opportunity to talk to staff, walk around the development and view their designs. It was really educating and the experience was worthwhile. It has confirmed to me that this is what I would like to do as a future career.”
Selina Birnie, an Art & Design lecturer at Barking & Dagenham College comments, “The students have really engaged with this project, because the development encompasses traditional design elements in a fresh, forward thinking way, that really considers the local community and reflects the modern needs of buyers today. As a design professional I have been most impressed with the attention to detail and superior level of finish in the show apartments at the BASE development.”
Selina continues: “In the course we look at the history of design and how it fits into the local environment, and we are conscious of trying to show the students how good design can be modern, yet still retain traditional aspects from historical design, which BASE does perfectly.”
Annette Cole, Sales and Marketing Director of Crest Nicholson Eastern comments: “Crest Nicholson is pleased to be able to help the students from the art and design course at Barking & Dagenham College with their interior design project. BASE is a stand out development that provides a good example of design in the local community and provides stylish apartments in an attractive and convenient location for local homebuyers.”
Situated around a friendly central courtyard, the apartments at Base form the heart of the now thriving community, which offers a collection of contemporary one and two bedroom apartments and three bedroom townhouses. BASE 6 is the latest collection of homes to launch at the development and will comprise a stylish collection of one and two bedroom apartments offering sophisticated open plan living. Each apartment benefits from lift access and secure allocated underground parking.
