VX Racing close to achieving the 100th race win

VX Racing has been in sight of its 100th race win for the last two race weekends and is determined to reach the milestone at Silverstone, the next event on the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship calendar. The team arrived at Snetterton one month ago needing two wins to reach the century, but left still needing them. At the following race weekend in Knockhill, the team came a win closer following Yvan Muller’s victory in the first race. Now standing on 99 race wins, VX Racing has three opportunities from the three-race Silverstone event to make history.

Silverstone, the penultimate event of this season’s BTC Championship, is set to be a thrilling weekend for race fans. The drivers championship is still undecided with VX Racing’s Yvan Muller chasing the leader, Matt Neal, and with 30 points separating the two, the title is still up for grabs.

This weekend’s event is the home race for the team, with Vauxhall’s head office nearby in Luton, and the race team based near Banbury, close to the Silverstone circuit. Ahead of the weekend the team will be taking part in a promotion for the Series, with the VX Racing Astra Sport Hatch taking to the roads and roundabouts of Milton Keynes for some demonstration runs, alongside other teams in the championship. A strong crowd, including many from Vauxhall in Luton, are expected to cheer on VX Racing for this unique event, which takes place on Thursday evening, outside the Xscape centre in central Milton Keynes. VX Racing’s two other drivers, Colin Turkington and Gavin Smith, will also be attending the Milton Keynes event to meet the fans and sign autographs.

Yvan Muller looks forward to the weekend saying, "The title chase is very hot now. It’s going to be quite tough for me to wrestle for the crown, but, as I do for each race, I shall be trying to win, so that I have given it the best shot possible. I don’t know whether Silverstone will suit our car, but maybe it will rain, which is good for me!" Commenting on the Milton Keynes event, the Frenchman added, "It’s good for us to take the BTCC show to the fans and give them a taste of the sounds and excitement of touring cars. I’m sure it will encourage people to come along at the weekend and see us racing on the track."

VX Racing travel to Silverstone lying in the lead of the manufacturers’ championship and second in the team championship. Muller lies second in the drivers’ championship with Turkington in fifth and Smith in tenth place. The Silverstone event will be the ninth race weekend of the 2005 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship on 17 and 18 August.
