Online car buying website motors.co.uk has launched the Buyer’s Choice Awards to help motorists bag a bargain as the new ‘10’ plate releases more new and used cars onto the market.

The awards recognise the nation’s most desirable cars of the past three years based on the millions of searches made annually on the motors.co.uk website.

In pole position is the BMW 3 Series which takes the prize for ‘Most Desirable Car’ after receiving the most searches in every year between 2007 and 2009.

Despite being launched over 30 years ago, the 3 Series remains the most popular compact sized executive car and is a more affordable BMW, giving excellent performance, reliability and strong resale value. Continuing the strong showing for BMWs, the 5 Series also receives an award for ‘Top Executive Car’ by making the top ten list of most searched for cars on the site.

For traversing hillsides or tackling the school run, the Honda CR-V is the most searched for car in its category and receives the ‘Top 4x4’ award. The ultra reliable Vauxhall Corsa receives the award for ‘Top First Car’. Easy to drive, and cheap to service and insure, the Corsa remains the ideal starter car for inexperienced drivers.

The second most searched for car in 2009, was the Ford Focus which wins the award for ‘Top Hatch’. The basic models are reliable, cheap, and fun to drive, making it our top hatch.
Katie Wardle, marketing manager at motors.co.uk said:

“We have launched the Buyer’s Choice awards to provide advice and guidance to the millions of motorists who search for their next car on motors.co.uk. With the new ‘10’ plate set to be introduced on 1 March, there will be surge in new car sales but the high number of part exchanges will also see more used cars on the market - making it the ideal time to get a great deal on a used car.”

To help British motorists beat the recession, motors.co.uk has given a special ‘Best Value’ award to the Vauxhall Astra which is cheaper than top sellers in its class, reliable and inexpensive to run.

The award for ‘Top Supermini’ goes to the Ford Fiesta, which remains a firm favourite and is a good all round car providing a nippy driving experience. The stylish and sporty Mini Cooper Diesel scoops the award for ‘Top Green Car’ by combining performance with low CO2 emissions and road tax.

The Ford Mondeo completes the list receiving the ‘Top Family Car’ award for its good value, comfort and space.

The motors.co.uk network, which is now the second largest used car network behind Auto Trader, has over 150,000 used cars for sale from around the country and visitors to the site can benefit from a host of features such as free history checks as well as buying advice.
