Life's a breeze for downsizer in Birmingham

After retiring from a challenging career and a life in London, Robin Neall wanted a more relaxing existence and a manageable home close to his daughters in Birmingham.
Robin, who worked in the architectural and construction industry, found the perfect fit in a one-bedroom apartment at Redrow’s award-winning Hemisphere development, situated in Edgbaston. He’s now living a life fit for a film star as our photo proves!
After working in the architectural industry all his life, the 72-year old trusts his eye for spotting a good home. And although his new pad at Hemisphere is deliberately smaller than the homes he’s previously occupied, Robin is delighted with his new choice.
He comments: “After retiring I wanted to be nearer my family who have all relocated to Birmingham. I wanted a smaller home that was more manageable and didn’t need much upkeep and my new apartment at Hemisphere offers me all this.
“However, moving to Hemisphere has also proven a great lifestyle choice thanks to its fantastic location. I am right on top of Cannon Hill Park, facing Warwickshire County Cricket Club and just 10 minutes from Birmingham city centre. Plus there are also fantastic public transport facilities right outside my door, which mean I hardly ever need to drive my car.
“Also, in May, the new £15 million arts centre will open within Cannon Hill Park, providing a new cinema, theatre, restaurants and bars. There’s also an animal farm in the park.”
Although Robin has generally always opted for older properties, he has enjoyed discovering the benefits of buying brand new over second-hand, saying: “It was a great relief not having to tackle any costly renovations or repairs when moving to Hemisphere. I was able to move straight in and begin exploring my new area.
“Also, unbelievably, after 12 months of living in my new apartment I have never once had to put my heating on because it’s so well insulated, plus it’s south facing so the sun shining through the French doors does a great job of warming it up.”
As well as finding favour with downsizers like Robin, Hemisphere has also appealed to young professionals and investors, all tempted by the quality of the apartments and the convenience of the location. Currently there is a choice and of one-bedroom apartment from £112,500 and two-bedroom apartments from £152,995.
Hemisphere is part of the wider Edgbaston Mill development, and residents will benefit from the facilities of an on-site hotel, health club, shops, bars and restaurants.
