Traditional homes for modern lifestyles

Redrow's exclusive new Heritage Collection has been successfully launched around the UK – and North Lincolnshire home buyers will be among the first to experience it.
Designed to be instantly recognisable, The New Heritage Collection – now selling at Fox’s Fold, in Barton-upon-Humber and Kirk’s Paddock, in Grimsby - features traditional looking homes with all the character of an older period style property; and none of the drawbacks.
Their high-specification interiors meet the demands of modern lifestyles and they are significantly more energy efficient than their second-hand counterparts.
The New Heritage Collection offers a premium housing product with more than a hint of nostalgia, influenced by the ‘Arts and Crafts’ era, with 34 different house designs available in brick and render finishes.
A good selection of these new homes are now on sale at Fox’s Fold and Kirk’s Paddock, and fully furnished show homes are due to open at both developments at the end of March. In the meantime, Redrow is selling the homes ‘off-plan’ and buyers who don’t want to wait to experience the new designs first-hand can travel to Sherburn in Elmet, near Selby, in North Yorkshire, to view three just opened show homes.
One of the most popular and enduring of domestic architectural styles, the Arts and Crafts influence can be seen in many so-called ‘character’ homes from later periods, especially the 1920s and 1930s.
Just as the Arts and Crafts era (c1850 – 1915) grew from the desire to bring back the skill and creativity of the individual craftsman and revive the simplicity and honesty in the way buildings and furnishings were made, Redrow has deliberately set out to reintroduce a high degree of individuality to the way its homes look and feel.
Patsy Aicken, sales manager of Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), explains: “The new homes were designed with the help of feedback from our customers and consumer focus groups. Main points we took on board were most people’s desire for a conventional two-storey home, preferably detached, with an easily accessible garage and a garden of their own.
“They also wanted something that looked traditional – maybe evocative of the home they grew up in - but with the latest, statement-making kitchens, bathrooms and quality fixtures and fittings.
“In reply, some of the key architectural influences, styles, shapes, colours and textures reflected in the Arts and Crafts movement have been brought right up to date with high-specification interiors styled for modern living.”
The New Heritage Collection is currently available at Kirk’s Paddock, where a range of three and four-bedroom homes are priced from £155,000, and Fox’s Fold, where four-bedroom homes start from just £169,999.
Some of the external features which typify the Arts and Crafts era - and can be seen in varying degrees on the new homes - include dropped eaves, projecting plinths, bays and other distinctive window styles, often with leaded lights. Other highlights include timber or tiled canopies over doors and windows, supported by decorative gallows brackets, and the use of larch lap boarding, while front door styles and colours also reflect the ‘heritage’ feel.
These traditional exteriors hide a contemporary interior specification, featuring convivial open plan living spaces, fashionable kitchen designs with floor to ceiling units, central islands and top brand name appliances, plus bathrooms that are sleek, modern and pleasing to the eye, with a tile range that’s exclusive to Redrow.
