ITV Sport has announced its plans to provide the Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship and ELF Renault Clio Cup with Michelin with extended, prime-time television coverage.

What’s more, for the first time ever, Clio Cup races will feature live on-board footage beginning when the season starts at Thruxton on 3rd/4th April.

In addition to the live broadcasts shown as part of ITV4’s British Touring Car Coverage and streamed live on itv.com, the two series – both prominent support races to the BTCC – will return to the popular Motorsport UK series.

A substantial 34-week schedule of coverage begins on April 27th on ITV4 with two repeats each week on ITV4 and also the channel’s flagship ITV1. A further showing will also be available through the popular Men & Motors channel.

The show will last one hour equalling four broadcast hours per program and making a total of 136 broadcast hours across three channels.

Each episode will also be able to view through the ITV player on the ITV website (itv.com/catchup) for up to four weeks after the show has been aired.

In addition to the regular highlights shows, both the Formula Renault UK Championship and ELF Renault Clio Cup are set to receive live coverage during the course of the season. As support races to the British Touring Car Championship, both one-make series will be shown live or same-day as-live during ITV4’s Sunday afternoon transmission – subject to TV scheduling and race meeting timetables.

During 2009, Motorsport UK audience figures for shows featuring the ELF Renault Clio Cup totalled 3,000,000. The corresponding figure for the Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship was an impressive 4,750,000.

Commenting on the announcement, Championship Promoter Simon North said: “We’re delighted with ITV’s broadcast schedule for both the ELF Renault Clio Cup and Formula Renault UK Championships, especially as it will allow even more fans to see great racing.

“Furthermore, the ELF Renault Clio Cup will continue to benefit from Renault Sport UK’s pioneering move to show complete footage of every race held on Sunday on its dedicated website renaultsport.co.uk. The full race videos will be available to view free of charge, 24 hours a day.”

ITV4 is currently available to more than 85% of UK households via Freeview, cable and satellite platforms.
