Getting to and from work quickly is the biggest influence for UK home movers – according to new research.

The latest statistics reveal that being close to the workplace is the most important factor for a massive 58 per cent of people looking to move house.

Men are most likely to view this as the most essential factor in choosing a new home, with more than two thirds (68 per cent) voting this a top priority, compared with 54 per cent of women.

Commuting costs the UK economy a staggering £260 million pound in working time each day, according to a recent study from the TUC - which also found that workers spend a daily average of 52.6 minutes commuting. Add this to ever-increasing fuel costs and the fact that the UK workers have the longest working hours in Europe, there is a growing need among buyers and home-hunters to limit the distance between home and office.
