Rookie racer John Allison heads for second race

The 34-year-old mortgage consultant proved his strength and determination by finishing sixth and fifth at Snetterton, earning him fourth place in the championship standings with 13 points.
John, who won Vauxhall’s competition last year to find a brand new racing driver said, “Snetterton was a really good weekend for me and I was pleased with how well everything went. I feel I could have pushed a little harder and towards the end of race two I was running slightly faster than my team-mate Martin Wallbank. I have never been to Pembrey before but I’ve looked up the details on the Internet to see what the circuit layout is like.
“Looking at my results at Snetterton, I’m hoping for a podium finish and I think I can achieve that,” concluded John, who beat more than 10,000 entrants in Vauxhall’s competition last year.
“We found a very talented racing driver in John Allison in last year’s competition and I’m excited to see if we can find another star driver in the 2008 search,” said Richard Hughes, Vauxhall’s Group Marketing Manager.
Vauxhall’s search for the VXR Racing Driver of the Year 2008 is open online now. The competition will see one talented individual win a fully-paid race seat in the Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup in the 2009 season. All drivers over the age of 21 can enter providing they have never held a race license.
To enter, simply visit vxrdriver.co.uk to fill in the online questionnaire by 27 June 2008. From this, 1,620 successful applicants will be put through their paces in the karting semi-finals, before 15 finalists are selected for the intensive
three-day final.
