One of the hairdressing industry’s leading publications, Hairdressers Journal International, has launched a campaign to “Keep Colour Professional”.

The campaign, backed by the world’s innovators in colour products – Aveda, Clynol, Goldwell, L’Oreal Professionnel, Paul Mitchell, Redken, Schwarzkopf Professional, TIGI and Wella Professionals is also endorsed by the UK’s leading colour technicians including three times winner of British Colour Technician of the Year, Lisa Shepherd.

Professional colourists are the font of all knowledge when it comes to hair colour, they are the masters of their craft, studying the technical aspect of hair colour for many years. Their professionally trained eye allows them to know instinctively what suits the client and they know the questions to ask and have the skills to create fantastic colour.

“Hair colour today is so exciting,” comments Lisa. “Hair that has been coloured professionally has depth, tone, shine and personality. Professional colourists are like artists working with an extensive colour palette to enhance client’s features and bring hair to life.”

Hair colour today can be serene and subtle or bold and bright depending on your personality. When celebrities change their colour it makes front page news – when Cheryl Cole went from brunette to red recently her hair colour made the headlines and after the recent Brit Awards the interest in Florence Welch’s red mane and Lady Gaga’s bleached blonde tresses was phenomenal. Kelly Osbourne’s a colour chameleon, changing from raven black to bleach blonde in an instant. When the first images of Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan and her blonde Audrey Hepburn crop came through bloggers everywhere were reaching for their keyboards to give their opinion on it.

Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Hairdressers Journal International, Jayne Lewis-Orr is delighted with the response to the campaign. “We are working with the colour houses and their colour ambassadors to ensure professional colour is at the forefront of every consumers mind when thinking about hair colour. A high percentage of women in the UK colour their hair not only to cover grey but also to enhance it. The professional colourist can change hair from drab to dazzling, maintaining shine and make you feel a million dollars. There’s no reason not to visit a professional colourist, in salon.”

The campaign will culminate with a Keep Colour Professional Action Week, which begins on May 10th 2010, where salons all over the country will be taking part in a range of activities, ensuring hair colour is always professional. Leading website HJi will be also be at the forefront of this campaign, running all the information that the professional hairdresser could need to enhance their colour business, as well as a series of consumer hair colour polls on it’s website: hji.co.uk
