Meccano mania comes to Ironbridge

An amazing Meccano show created by Telford and Ironbridge Meccano Society, Shropshire will be an extra bonus for anyone visiting Enginuity, the Ironbridge Gorge hands-on design and technology museum, during the early May Bank Holiday weekend.

From Saturday 1st to Monday 3rd May, the ‘Meccanuity’ exhibition will feature an impressive array of large and small working Meccano models in Enginuity’s unique event space, formerly the dramatic Engine Shop of the Coalbrookdale ironworks.

Among the intricate working models will be a vast display of famous bridges, including a three-metre Clifton Suspension Bridge, a two-metre Iron Bridge and a one-metre working replica of James May’s giant Meccano Bridge over the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. In addition to the many cranes, planes, robots and trains, enthusiasts will also be competing to devise the best Meccano long-jumping flea.

Open 10am to 5pm daily, Enginuity is one of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums. A Passport, to all ten valid for twelve months and multiple return visits, costs £21.95 per adult, £17.60 for the 60 plus, £14.25 for students and children and £59.95 for a family of two adults and three children aged up to 18 years in full time education; under 5s free. Individual museum entry tickets are also available.
