VisitEngland are calling on the British public to share how they make the most of one minute in England for a chance to win 10,000 minutes of English Holiday. This call to action comes as part of the spring phase of the successful UK marketing campaign, ‘Enjoy Every Minute; Enjoy England’.

Working adults in Britain have a minimum of 20 days of annual leave, but with eight bank holidays, 104 weekend days and 233 evenings, there are hundreds of spare hours in which to make the most of England. VisitEngland are encouraging Brits to share their ideas and favourite minutes in England at enjoyengland.com/minute.

"Sometimes it’s frustrating to think you don’t get to see the places in your own country that you would if you thought of yourself as a tourist" said Helena Bonham Carter, who spends many happy hours filming around England’s countryside. "You have to set aside the time, look at it as you would a holiday and discover what’s on your own doorstep."

Recent research shows that 78% of us feel that making the most of our weekends puts us in a better mood for the rest of the week and 4 out of 5 people say that taking a day trip makes them feel good. Additionally 59% of Brits feel they don’t know England as well as they should and 68% of Brits don’t think they make best use of their free time.

VisitEngland are encouraging Britons to re-evaluate their spare time allowing people to get that holiday feeling as often as possible, whether they have an hour free, a day or a whole week. Walking across a beautiful bridge in the morning on the way to work or treating yourself to an ice cream with a friend in the evening - one minute can make all the difference!

"Although most Brits are aware that there are great things to see and do in England, over half of us admit to not making the most of our free time," said Amanda Smyth, Head of Marketing for VisitEngland. "We’re hoping to inspire people to get out and about in England and discover the hundreds of experiences you can have in this country from sailing on a pirate ship near Brixham to a horse riding adventure in the New Forest."

Now Britons can share their favourite moments and experiences in England by uploading a one-minute video to enjoyengland.com/minute for a chance to win 10,000 minutes of English holiday. The concept is to share one minute of a memorable English experience, whether it be playing in the park or friends sharing Pimms on a terrace; a rollercoaster ride or bungee jumping off the Transporter Bridge! Videos will be rated by members of the public with the submitter of the highest rated video receiving 10,000 minutes of holiday. A collection of the best minutes will be used as part of VisitEngland’s September campaign activity.
