Fuel duty voted ‘most unfair tax’
As we begin a new tax year, fuel duty has been voted the most unfair tax in Britain by MSN Money users.
Members of the public were asked to choose which tax was more unfair, when presented with a choice of two at random on MSN Money UK.
More than 150,000 votes were cast. The list of taxes covered everything from fuel and stamp duty to national insurance and sin taxes.
The top 10 most unfair taxes, as voted for by MSN Money users, are as follows:
Fuel duty
Council tax
Inheritance tax
Road tax
VAT
Income tax
Stamp duty
Insurance tax
Capital gains tax
Airport tax
Commenting on the results, Simon Ward, MSN Money's Senior Editor, said: "With fuel prices heading for another record high, it's perhaps not surprising that fuel duty was the (un)popular choice as the most unfair tax.
"Interestingly, despite it becoming an election issue, national insurance didn't make the top 10, which suggests our users think it's fairer than many other taxes."
