Heritage Motor Centre to showcase special Jaguar Mark X
The Heritage Motor Centre, home to the world's largest historic collection of British cars, is to showcase a special 1963 Jaguar Mark X as part of an exhibition by leading Portuguese artist Miguel Palma.
The exhibition is being held in conjunction with the Mead Gallery at Warwick Arts Centre from 1 – 29 May 2010. The car itself will be on display at the HMC from 1 May - 30 June 2010.
Miguel Palma, who is fascinated by technology, especially cars, found the 1963 Jaguar Mark X in Lisbon with its plate Jaguar Cars Ltd, Coventry, England. Palma will drive the car from Lisbon to Coventry through places with which the car has an association such as Le Mans where Jaguar won many races and Mondicourt in the Pas de Calais where the car’s first owner lived. The journey will start in Lisbon on 22 April and Palma hopes to arrive in Coventry by 25 April.
Prior to the opening of Palma’s exhibition, a talk will be held in the Mead Gallery on Friday 30 April where Palma will discuss his work before a broad audience. The exhibition will include Palma’s drawings about cars and technology and archive material from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Centre in Browns Lane, Coventry. Visitors to the HMC will be able to see the Jaguar Mark X as part of a display that looks at epic journeys and the vehicles that made them as well as watch a film of the car’s journey home to Coventry. The artist himself plans to visit the HMC at some point during the exhibition.
Miguel Palma is recognised as one of the most significant artists living in Portugal and has played a key role in the developing profile of contemporary Portuguese art. He has had a number of substantial exhibitions in Western Europe and the US. A major monograph was published about his work in 2005.

When this model was launched in October 1961, it was the very essence of Jaguar’s marketing slogan of the time - Grace, Space and Pace. It was the biggest car that Jaguar had ever made and had a very imposing presence on the road, being both incredibly sleek and powerful. We trust visitors will enjoy viewing this very special car and learning more about its journey from Lisbon to Coventry”.
Museum entry is: Adult £9, Concession £8, Child (5-16) £7, Family £28 (2 adults and up to 3 children).
